Student led construction project - Career & Technical Education (CTE) in action!

Our Building Construction students have been hard at work on a real-world project—constructing shed roofs to protect outdoor utilities! The band building tends to collect some big icicles in the winter, and our Facilities Director, Mark Soderstrom, asked our Career & Technical Education (CTE) Instructor, Mr. Blazina, if this could be a student-led project.

Last fall, students started by learning about foundations and concrete, then poured footings for the structures. Since then, they’ve been applying their knowledge of construction principles, working in teams with student leaders managing materials and daily tasks.

Right now, two groups are framing roofs and learning how to cut and install rafters, and tackling roof sheathing and fall protection training. This project is giving students valuable hands-on experience while improving our school facilities—way to go, future builders!
