Man using the Promethean Board

Last week at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School, English teacher Mrs. Harper and Math teacher Mr. Berk initiated our pilot of interactive whiteboards when they attended a demo of the Promethean Board.  An interactive whiteboard is an interactive panel that replaces the traditional projector and screen with a large touch screen that looks similar to a TV.  Mr. Berk is using the Promethean Board in his math classes.

Currently, projectors have been used in our classrooms to project the teacher’s computer screen onto a pull down screen and/or the whiteboard. As these projectors near end of life, we are looking to keep up with the current technology and best practices in education by moving toward interactive whiteboards.  While teachers will still be able to share their screen on the interactive whiteboards, now students will also be able to project their screen for all to see.  This is particularly useful when a student is explaining their work , sharing research or making a presentation.  As part of our last technology levy,  funding exists to improve and support technology throughout the district.  This pilot aligns with our goal to continue to work towards updating and standardizing technology in classrooms in a streamlined and fiscally responsible manner.
