The Cle Elum-Roslyn Outdoor Club, led by Seth Miller and Stacy Earl, continues to make an incredible impact by providing students with opportunities to embrace physical activity and the beauty of the outdoors. This year, the club proudly hosts 60 student participants in its skiing program, including many first-time skiers. The program’s success is made possible through the dedication of 10 enthusiastic volunteers and one courageous bus driver, all working tirelessly to ensure a safe, fun, and enriching experience for all participants.

What sets this program apart is that all these opportunities are completely free to students, thanks to the partnerships Seth and Stacy have cultivated with key community organizations and donors. The Outdoor Club’s mission would not be possible without the incredible generosity of sponsors and supporters, including The Summit at Snoqualmie, Petry Trust, Suncadia Community Fund, Heins Foundation, the Education Foundation of Cle Elum-Roslyn Schools, and She Jumps. Their contributions ensure that financial barriers don’t prevent students from experiencing the joy of skiing and outdoor recreation.

Amanda Heins, President of the Education Foundation of Cle Elum-Roslyn Schools, remarked, “The Education Foundation of Cle Elum-Roslyn proudly supports the High School Outdoor Club. Our shared mission is to ensure equitable access to the incredible outdoor experiences our community offers, inspiring students to explore and appreciate the mountains we call home.”

When asked about the incredible support the Outdoor Club has received, Seth Miller also shared, “A special thank-you goes to Tara Lauder at Snoqualmie Pass for her ongoing support and to John Belcher at CERSD for his behind-the-scenes contributions to the program’s success.”

The importance of this program aligns perfectly with the findings from the Kittitas County Community Health Assessment, which identified youth physical inactivity and increased screen time as significant mental health concerns. By promoting outdoor recreation and physical activity, the Outdoor Club is directly supporting the District’s vision to optimize student well-being. These activities not only encourage students to get outside and stay active but also foster peer connection and build healthier, more balanced lifestyles.

Seth Miller has also been a driving force behind prioritizing student safety through avalanche training, “Know Before You Go” education, and collaborations with Search and Rescue. Special thanks go to Kittitas Search and Rescue, and the Northwest Avalanche Center, for their contributions to the school’s Outdoor Safety program, which equips students with essential knowledge and skills to stay safe while exploring the wilderness.

This initiative is about more than just skiing—it’s about building confidence, fostering a love for the outdoors, and creating lifelong memories. Under the dedicated leadership of Seth Miller and Stacy Earl, and with the amazing support of our community, the Outdoor Club is empowering students to tackle new challenges and embrace adventures they’ll cherish forever.

The Cle Elum-Roslyn School District is proud to have such passionate staff, sponsors, and community partners working together to inspire and enrich the lives of our students. Here’s to another fantastic season on the slopes!
